I can think of a few ways that comparison could lead to joy. It could help you get a more accurate idea of your skills, it could provide healthy motivation, it could give you confidence.
I can think of many more ways that comparison could lead to misery. It could discourage you how far behind others you are, it could cultivate a sense of despair as you always find someone better than you, it could puff you up with pride that you are better than others, it could poison a once rich friendship.
Thus, I think we should be wary of comparison. Our time is better spent doing good work, building others up in love, thanking God for what he has given us, reflecting on how we might have the same attitude of Christ Jesus.
Do your own work well, and then you will have something to be proud of. But don't compare yourself with others.
In all this comparing and grading and competing, they quite miss the point.
