I have tried to learn a few of Julianna Barwick's pieces by ear (Forever, The Harbinger, Cloudbank, Vow, Red Tit Warbler) and have really enjoyed it. But I've been picking out one melody, and for awhile now I've thought it would be cool to try to cover her tracks in the same way she makes hers, except using piano instead of voice.
It could be helpful to look at live performances to help pick out layers. This would be a great use of the looper I have. It's also possible that she might be willing to share stems from her tracks, which would be the best case scenario. But I wouldn't wait on that. The first step is to recreate an entire track of hers, probably "The Harbinger" or "Cloudbank".
Although I'm fine giving my own music away for free, I think I'd have to charge for this one, so I can forward her royalties. Or it's possible that I could do a small Kickstarter to raise enough money to pay for a certain number of downloads or streams. I don't need to make any money off it.
- The Harbinger
- Vow (need to rework what I have so far)
- Red Tit Warbler
- White Flag (if possible)
- Crystal Lake
- More from her untitled tracks?
It's OK if it's less than 10 tracks. They can be a little longer.
Add more about the instrumentation and track structure here.
For some reason, I've always had "Cathedrals" in mind as a title for the album.
