Lonergan on mortifying lust

When you are tempted by lust, identify it as an attack from the enemy. It is not merely a personal struggle with yourself, though it may be that as well, but it is also an attack.

1 Peter 5

Ephesians 6

Athanasius on resisting sin.

Revelation 17, the abomination, don't give your life and energy to her.

Great Divorce - the Spirit will kill the sin, all you have to do is say "Kill it."

The territory of you is worth fighting for. God has claimed you as his own. Satan is trying to reclaim you. He is trying to take you out, to make you ineffective, to attack you in any clever way he can to undermine what God is doing in your life.

Pray that God would win me for himself and his glory.

No one can snatch them out of God's hand (John 10)

The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and they are safe.

Ask that God would give you the power to overcome temptation. You want to mortify lust completely (and other sins) and have no reservations about it, no small part of it that you want to hold onto. You want it to be completely killed, and ask the Spirit to do that.

We know that if we ask anything in God's will, we have it (1 John) and we know that God desires us to obey and be pure, therefore we know that when we pursue those ends and ask for his power to live that out, we can have faith that he will help us.
