Reflections on Psalm 63:5

My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods. With singing lips my mouth will praise you.

God can satisfy us completely. What do you do when you feel a lack of this satisfaction? This verse is a reminder of the satisfaction that God has already given, and the satisfaction that he will continue to give.

To believe this verse is to hold on to that hope of satisfaction. Against feelings of discontent that will come to us from time to time, this verse says "My soul will be satisfied." Against temptation that comes to us saying "You are not satisfied. This sin can satisfy you," this verse says "My soul will be satisfied."

The truth that God can satisfy us transcends our feelings, circumstances, and even our own actions. To the extent that we believe it, we join in with a deep and unchanging reality, to our great joy. What can follow but worship?
