What Jesus does in John 1

I have thought that it would interesting to examine the actions of Jesus in order to learn more about who he was. What does he spend his time doing? What does he value?

As a small start, here is a list of what Jesus does in John 1.

  • He was with God in the beginning (John 1:1)
  • He made everything (John 1:3)
  • He came to the world (John 1:11)
  • He gave the right to become children of God to all who received him. (John 1:12)
  • He became flesh (John 1:14)
  • He lived among us (John 1:14)
  • He takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29)
  • He surpasses John because he was before John (John 1:30)
  • He asks people what they want (John 1:38)
  • He invites people to come and see where he is staying (John 1:39)
  • He gives Simon the new name of Peter (John 1:42)
  • He tells Phillip to follow him (John 1:43)
  • He tells Nathanael that he is a man in whom there is nothing false (John 1:47)
  • He tells Nathanael he saw him under a fig tree before Phillip called him (John 1:48)
  • He says Nathanael will see great things, specifically heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man. (John 1:51)
